What is Wi-Fi calling?

Instead of using your carrier's network connection, you can make free voice calls over a Wi-Fi network. This could mean using a Wi-Fi connection you've set up at home or any Wi-Fi hotspot. -Fi on it when you're out and about, like at a cafe or library. In many ways, it's like any other phone call and you still use regular phone numbers.

All four major US carriers (T-Mobile, Sprint, AT&T, and Verizon) provide built-in Wi-Fi calling. Republic Wireless and Google Project Fi also provide Wi-Fi calling on select phones.

All T-Mobile phones offer built-in Wi-Fi calling. As for Sprint, Wi-Fi calling is available on several iPhone models running iOS 9.1 or higher. Several Android devices also have the service, but you'll need to check your phone's Settings menu to see if you have it.

Does it cost more?

For domestic calls, there is no extra charge as such. But making calls over Wi-Fi may go outside your normal minute limit, depending on your carrier and phone plan.
